Un filmato recuperato dall’esercito israeliano durante le operazioni nella Striscia di Gaza mostra sei ostaggi israeliani mentre cercano di accendere le candele della festa di Hanukkah in un tunnel con scarso ossigeno. I sei ostaggi sono Hersh Goldberg-Polin, 23 anni, Eden Yerushalmi, 24 anni, Ori Danino, 25 anni, Alex Lobanov, 32 anni, Carmel Gat, 40 anni, e Almog Sarusi, 27 anni. Il filmato risale al dicembre 2023. Otto mesi dopo, il 29 agosto 2024, all’approssimarsi delle Forze di Difesa israeliane al tunnel sotto il quartiere di Tel Sultan, a Rafah (Striscia di Gaza meridionale), tutti e sei gli ostaggi furono assassinati con un colpo alla testa dai terroristi palestinesi.

Security forces apprehended a suspected Irish Republican Army dissident, reported to be training Palestinian militants in the use of explosives, it was released for publication Sunday.
The man reportedly arrived in Israel three weeks ago and was caught in the West Bank city of Ramallah.
Britain's Observer newspaper reported on Sunday that Israeli security forces were seeking an IRA dissident said to be training Palestinian militants in bomb-making.
The newspaper said the man was believed to have entered Israel last month on a British passport and crossed over to a Palestinian area in the West Bank. The newspaper said it knew the identity of the man, who comes from Northern Ireland's Irish nationalist heartland of South Armagh, but could not name him for legal reasons.
It said he was a former IRA member who had switched his allegiance to the so-called Real IRA, which split from the IRA in protest over its 1997 cease-fire.
The splinter group has since been blamed for a series of bombing attacks in Northern Ireland and Britain, including the August 1998 car bombing of Omagh that killed 29 and wounded more than 300.
For years, the IRA had links with Palestinian militant groups, and Irish paramilitaries have recently been accused of training violent groups abroad in exchange for funds.
Three IRA-linked Irishmen are currently on trial in Colombia, accused of training Marxist rebels in terrorist techniques. They were arrested in August 2001 at Bogota airport after visiting a rebel stronghold. The men deny the charges, and say they were in Colombia to observe the peace process between the rebels and the government.
