Primi test con successo in Israele per un innovativo sistema laser aereo in grado di distruggere l'aviazione più letale di questi anni a basso costo: i droni. Come parte dei test, il laser ha colpito diversi velivoli senza equipaggio che volavano a varie altitudini e distanze diverse. Il sistema è stato sviluppato da Ebit Systems e i test sono stati eseguiti in coordinamento con l'IAF e l'Amministrazione per lo sviluppo delle armi e le infrastrutture tecnologiche del ministero della Difesa (MAFAT). La guerra in Libano del 2006 portò allo sviluppo tecnologico che pochi anni dopo diede vita all'Iron Dome, il sistema antimissile particolarmente efficiente ma che ha un costo elevato (50.000 dollari ogni colpo). Di qui l'esigenza di trovare un sistema alternativo e a un costo minore. L'intercettazione utilizzando un sistema laser aereo ad alta potenza presenta molti vantaggi, oltre al risparmio, la capacità di intercettare minacce provenienti da lunghe distanze, operando a grandi altitudini senza restrizioni legate a condizioni meteorologiche, fornendo così una zona protetta su vaste aree. Secondo il capo del MAFAT, il generale Yaniv Rotem, il completamento dei prototipi richiederà tre-quattro anni, e spera che per allora possa essere implementato il primo sistema per la difesa delle comunità vicine al confine di Gaza, le più bersagliate dai missili di Hamas. Il sistema, ha spiegato Rotem, è completamente automatizzato: "È un sistema ottico molto avanzato, con capacità di monitoraggio e intelligenza artificiale. Non appena un bersaglio si sposta in un'area di interesse, il sistema lo aggancia. Questo sistema sarà montato su aerei.
